Xue Xinran was born in 1958 in Beijing, and grew up during Mao Zedong’s Cultural Revolution. In 1989 she founded a radio program, for Henan radio station, that told stories of real Chinese women who lived during the revolution. “Words on the night breeze” has also become a book: “The good women of China” (2002). Xinran is now a journalist and lives in London, but her story and the ones of the women she interviewed in China keep being an example even for western countries and people.
